Tuesday, November 15, 2011Formality Utility.Day 515 Had a short random conversation with Z about how formalities form a barrier among friendships. Like how, ironically, informality actually boosts friendship, if you think about it carefully. No matter how much formality keeps you in check in ensuring people aren't rude to each other and how it acts as a form of social etiquette, it inevitably creates tension. Like you're obliged to interact with people within theirs and your comfort zones only. Because once you mention something you ought not to, people will gasp at that taboo. Z says she's been very polite to people, with her Ps and Qs all the time and though she's well-liked by peers, there's a limit to the amount of friendship she has with someone else. If you've heard, its the usual, "I've got many friends, but not many best friends I can think of at the moment." scenario. So fuckin random, this topic. But I can't help but to think about it whenever I start off a text to someone I've never spoken to for a long time with just mere, "Hey how's life? Good morning." or end of a convo with "Alright thanks for everything once again." Formalities are pre-requisites to how conversations can possibly die down. Without them you start a dialogue with, "WTF GUESS WHAT LOL BUT BEFORE THAT HOW SHIT IS YOUR LIFE?" or end it off with "HAHA FUCK YOU DAMN RETARD <3 <3 K LAH I NEED GO PEE" (which may actually force another reply from whoever you're texting. -.-) Do you guys see it nao? ._. |
